Write
On for Windows
WriteOn
set the standard in children's word processors that others have followed.
"WriteOn fills the word processing gap perfectly" said the TES.
"WriteOn Plus is an exciting, compelling piece of word processing
software that would inspire any writer" enthused Junior Education.
WriteOn for Windows
retains all the best features of its predecessors, and adds lots more.
Beginners can still use a very simple screen with large letters and
an uncluttered appearance. And pupils have access to more advanced features
as they get more confident, with four different levels of options. But
WriteOn for Windows gives children (and teachers) just about everything
you could want in a word processor. It can act as a whole word processor
(with optional pictures); it can speak with 20 different voices (English,
not American); it records the words that children misspell; it is highly
configurable, and much more. The program comes with a highly praised
spell-checker especially designed for children. You can choose between
a Beginner's and an Advanced dictionary. And the spell-checker can speak
the suggested words (on their own or in the sentence) so that children
can hear which word fits.
New: WriteOn includes a specially developed
handwriting font, perfect for developing children's own handwriting
skills.
Level 1

- Simple, uncluttered
screen
- Whole word processing
(with or without pictures)
- Word and picture
banks
- "Minipage" window
on the text
- Simple menu for
printing, adding pictures etc
As beginners progress
they can use more advanced features, by choosing one of the four available
levels. For example, you can introduce the use of buttons with icons
at level 2; at level 3 you may wish to get children to use a simple
ruler with margins and tabs, until at level 4 they can be given almost
all the features they will meet in professional word processing. But
you can configure each level to do exactly what you think is most appropriate
for your children.
Level 2
- A few large icons
to start with
- Simple typestyle
panel to change fonts
- Beginner's speaking
spell checker
- Simple paragraph
formatting panel
Level 3
- Large icons for
changing fonts, font size, bold etc
- Icons for paragraph
formatting
- Ruler with simple
margins and tabs
- Control of picture
size
Level 4
- Small icons for
common tools
- Complete control
of margins, tabs etc
- Full control
over your text
- Excellent preparation
for MS Word etc
Speech
We've put a lot
of effort into the speaking capabilities of WriteOn for Windows. You
can choose between 20 different voices. You can ask the program to automatically
speak letter by letter as you type (pronouncing letters' names or their
sounds); or speak a sentence at a time, or speak the whole of a child's
work. You can even use a different voice within quotes. Speak He
said 'Hello'. and you'll get the He
said in one voice and the 'Hello'
in another! And of course words in word banks and in the spell checker
can be spoken as well.
